Obono-Obla Declared Wanted Over Refusal to Honour ICPC Invitation

The sacked chairman of the Special presidential Investigative Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, Okoi Obono-Obla, has been declared wanted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission.

The declaration was contained in a statement by spokesperson for the anti-graft agency, Rasheedat Okoduwa.

The ICPC accused Obono-Obla of failing to honour their invitation over a number of allegations levelled against him bordering on fraud and corruption. The body said there was evidence that Obono-Obla left the country in August and had yet to return.

The statement said, “The commission is in receipt of petitions accusing him of abuse of office, falsification of admission records, living above his income and collection of gratifications from suspects under his investigation.

“The suspended chairman is also facing allegations of working outside the guidelines governing the panel by investigating unauthorised petitions and prosecuting suspects without recourse to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

“We have conducted a series of investigations into the allegations with preliminary findings showing that some provisions of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 and extant laws of Nigeria had been allegedly violated by Obono-Obla.”

The ICPC said the Nigeria Immigration Service records had revealed that Obono-Obla left Nigeria for an undisclosed location on August 17, 2019, through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and had not returned since.
