Research:IUO VC advise post graduate students to improve on economic development.

Prof Lawrence Ezemonye,Vice Chancellor, Igbenedion University, Okada (IUO) has advised post graduate students of the institution to use research to improve on economic development, creativity and innovation in order to create national development.

Ezemonye gave the advice during a One Day Post-Graduate summit in Igbenedion University Okada (IUO) on Thursday.

He called on the post graduate students to develop research policy ideas, adding that collaborating with lecturer to create great ideas was the key.

Ezemonye said that every research must be honesty, accuracy and factual, warning students to desist from theft when carrying out a project or research.

He said teacher, educators must be equipped with effective strategies and pedagogies for developing positive attitudes towards research.

Prof John Okhuoya,Professor of Mycology/Mushroom Biology,University of Benin(Uniben),who delivered a lecture said research culture is very vital and important in every university.

The theme”Research,Ethics,Attitude and Methodologies” aims at creating research ideas to improve national development.

He defined post graduate research “as a systematic methodological scientific approach for basic facts around a particular problem in order to find solutions based on facts”.

“We live in a knowledge based economy now,and universities constitute the hub for knowledge.the rate of transfer of this knowledge is very rapid and so,to be competitive and survive,we need to constantly innovate”.

“We need to establish a culture of research on our university system that fosters meaningful research and innovation”.

“One of the instrument to achieve research culture in Nigeria is through Post graduate research”,he said.

He said that research unveils the hidden treasures that adds values to life and development.

Okhuoya said that unethical research practices includes:fabrication,falsification and plagiarism.

He said that unethical research practices and appropriation of another persons idea are now very common in Nigeria universities.

He urged the federal government to fund and invest in research students in order to tackle national problems.
