Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has shut down five Computer-Based Test centres in Ondo State for examination malpractices.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, stated this at a meeting with the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, in Akure, Ondo State, adding that “only few of the privately-owned CBT centres adhered to high ethical standards demanded by the board.”
JAMB met with the state governor to seek approval for the construction of a mega CBT centre for the state in the Alagbaka Estate, Government Reserved Area.
Oloyede said, “There are 17 CBT centres in the state, out of which five have been suspended for various infractions during the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. Since the number of the CBT centres in the state is grossly inadequate, there is a need to commence the immediate construction of a modern, well-equipped mega CBT centre to cater to the needs of the teeming population of UTME candidates.
“The land earlier allocated to the board for the mega CBT centre is inadequate to house the various technical and ancillary facilities like banks, to mention a few, required by JAMB for efficient service delivery. The land is located in an isolated area which will expose candidates to untold hardship.”
The governor, in his remarks, said his administration had granted JAMB’s requests and urged the board to be more diligent in their responsibilities.
Meanwhile, a former JAMB registrar, Dr Mohammed Abdulrahman, has said the introduction of the CBT-based examination had helped to reduce corruption in the conduct of examinations.
Abdulrahman, who was the registrar between 1986 and 1996, was quoted as saying this in a JAMB bulletin on Monday
“Examination is war in Nigeria. It is like you are going to the war front, with a tense atmosphere. The administration of the board’s examination is now less cumbersome with the introduction of the electronic mode of examination – the CBT,” he said.
