Francis Atanomeyovwi, former National Treasurer of the Urhobo Progress Union has warned those planning protest against Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s Deputy Senate President’s bid to drop their ‘evil agenda’ in their own interest, noting that taking such protest to Abuja may be a dangerous misadventure that will yield no benefits.
Addressing newsmen in Warri, Atanomeyovwi disclosed that he has been watching unfolding events with regards Senator Omo-agege’s ambition from the sideline but have decided to speak out because of the proposed protest to Abuja by a group of ‘’disgruntled elements who are scared of Omo-Agege’s rise on the national scene.
‘’While it is their rights to pursue any legitimate grievance they have in the law court as in the case of the authentic APC executive of the party now before the Supreme Court, the move to protest against Senator Omo-Agege’s bid for Deputy Senate President of the 9th Assembly is totally unacceptable. It is despicable, unpatriotic, anti-Urhobo interest and must be condemned by all and sundry’’, he said.
Atanomeyovwi cautioned parents of those nursing such a dangerous political misadventure to warned their children and wards against the move, maintaining that those sponsoring them will not have their children embark on such a treacherous and hazardous mission, ‘’because when the chips are down, they will suffer the consequences of their actions by themselves. Security agencies are already aware of their evil design and anybody arrested may have to face the music while their sponsors may not be able to help them. There is a limit to political cynicism and stupidity. This kind of blind politics targeted at robbing your own people of their honour and glory because of petty and selfish political interest cannot be tolerated. I am only concerned that some of our children are being used as cannon folders in an ego game between political gladiators who may settle among themselves while the unwise street urchins used to promote or prosecute the ego war may end up in jail. Let our people be wise’’, he added.
Atanomeyovwi expressed dismay with the reckless display of ignorance on the working of the Senate in the emergence of its leadership, stressing that only the Senators would determine the leadership perhaps with some inputs from party leaders.
‘’No amount of protest would sway the mind of the senators to vote for or against a particular candidate. The senators are aware that protests of this nature are sponsored by interested parties and that will not change their positions on the matter. I therefore warn the gang of political turncoats to drop the infantile, silly and obviously dangerous proposal to endanger the lives of our Urhobo young men and women being enlisted for the dirty job’’, he said.
