In a bid to have adequate health workers deployed to secondary health facilities across Delta state, the Civil Society in Malaria Control Immunisation Nutrition (ACOMIN), Delta State Advocacy Team, paid a courtesy visit to the new director of hospital services, Delta State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Funmilayo Omoraka.
Speaking on behalf of the state advocacy team, led by the state chairman of ACOMIN, Greg Sifo, during the visit, the state program officer of ACOMIN, Itua Osasunmhen, congratulated Dr. Funmilayo Omoraka, who was recently appointed the director of Delta state Hospital Management Board. Osasunmhen, who also use the medium to draw the attention of the director to the state of some secondary health facilities across the state, pleads with Dr. Funmilayo to redeploy health workers to General Hospital, Ibusa, General Hospital, Akuku-Igbo, and Central Hospital, Warri, for efficient health delivery.
“ACOMIN has been engaged by the Global Fund, through its principal recipient; Catholic Relief Services (CRS) to handle the Accountability and Advocacy Component of the Global Fund Malaria Project. ACOMIN work with critical stakeholders to ensure Accountability for commodity utilization, Accountability for value for money, Accountability for budgetary appropriations, Accountability for Human Resource deployment, and Accountability for Result.
“In carrying out our duties as a civil society organisation, we engaged Community Based Organization who work for us, and in the course of their duties they noticed that General Hospital Ibusa, General Hospital Akuku-Igbo and Central Hospital, Warri have low staff strength to attend to the mobilized general Public with specific references to Parents of Under-five, Pregnant Women, and children and they are not adequately attend to in view of the low man power that exist in the facilities.“
Warri Central Hospital is reported to only enroll 80 pregnant women at a given period. That has affected the women such that they are enrolled into antenatal care until their third trimesters. As such no proper monitoring of pregnant women in the area.
“I want to appeal the Board on behalf of the Delta state Advocacy team of ACOMIN, to please redeploy staff to aid in caring for the patients in General Hospital Ibusa, General Hospital Akuku-Igbo and Central Hospital, Warri in order for them to benefit from the free Malaria support project.”
Responding, Dr. Funmilayo Omoraka, decried the low man power the Board is currently struggling with, adding that other Hospitals are also in need of Personnel. She therefore assures the state advocacy team the Delta state Government plans to employ more capable and competent hands.
“as soon as this is achieved the specific facilities mentioned will be given priority.”
In his closing remarks, the State Chairman of ACOMIN, Greg Sifo, appreciates Dr. Funmilayo Omoraka, for the attention, adding that the team relied heavily on the commitment made.
“This would benefit the society.” He said.
ACOMIN Advocates Budget Appropriation, Disbursement for Malaria Activities
In a related development, the Delta state advocacy team of the Civil Society in Malaria Control Immunisation Nutrition (ACOMIN), paid a familiarisation visit to the Project Manager, State Malaria Eradication Program, Dr. Aniah Julie, who recently took over from Dr. Onojeta.
While advocating for increase in budget appropriation and disbursement of funds for Malaria activities, during the visit, the Delta state program officer, ACOMIN, Itua Osasunmhen, explains to the new projects manager, the role of ACOMIN as a civil society organization poised to eradicate Malaria.
“I want to on behalf of the state advocacy team congratulate you on your new appointment, as the project manager, Delta State Malaria Eradication Program.
“Our purpose of visiting you today is to advocate for increased funding for Malaria interventions in Delta State.
“In December 2019, the Executive Director told us that the Agency was defending budget and that the budget for Malaria has increased. It is on that strength we are requesting the full implementation of budgeted and approved activities to further make up for the Global Fund support for Malaria activities.
“On our part, we promised to give our unbiased support to attain the goal of eliminating Malaria.”
While appreciating ACOMIN for the intense advocacy, Dr. Aniah Julie, assures the team of her best input in ensuring adequate budgeting and proper budget utilization.
