Delta govt. solicits FG’s intervention in rehabilitation of dilapidated federal roads

The Commissioner for Information in Delta, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has appealed to the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the rehabilitation of dilapidated federal roads in the state.

Aniagwu made the appeal on Tuesday in Asaba, while fielding questions from newsmen on the poor state of federal roads in different parts of the state.

He said that the state government was aware that the federal government had awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of some of the roads.

He however expressed disappointment that the job had yet to take off.

He further expressed concern over the nightmare experienced by motorists and commuters plying the Asaba-Niger Bridge Head end of the Onitsha-Benin Expressway due to its deplorable condition.

The commissioner also cited the road from Benin to Warri through Sapele Road as deserving of immediate rehabilitation.

“So, we are using this medium to appeal to the federal ministry of works to intensify and fast-track action on our roads because they are in a very bad shape.

“We have tried to intervene on some of the roads before now but we have many other responsibilities begging for attention.

“We believe that once the federal government steps in, the roads will experience a facelift,” Aniagwu said.
