Delta Plans To Migrate From Manual Plate Number To Automatic Recognition Solution

Delta state ministry of transportation has revealed plans to introduce automatic plate number recognition solutions to replace the manual and crude process of road traffic enforcement.

The Hon. Commissioner for transportation, Mr. Onoriode Agofure disclosed this on Thursday 14th, December 2023 during the opening ceremony for 3-days capacity building workshop for testing engineers/ technologist of the VIOs for the computerized vehicle inspection center in Asaba.

Agofure noted that the migration becomes important as the world is going digital and the global trend of technological advancement.

Agofure added that with technological advancements, it become imperative for Delta State Government to migrate from the manual process of vehicle inspection/testing and drivers testing to computerized vehicle testing as well as computer-based testing of all drivers across the State.

Hon. Onoriode also revealed that plans are on course by the state government to introduce automatic number plate recognition solutions to replace the manual and crude process of road traffic enforcement.

The Hon. Commissioner said the innovations with cutting-edge technology are automated to provide real-time information for revenue tracking and planning.

Agofure advised all participants to take advantage of the opportunity to embrace these emerging technologies, as well be abreast with the latest innovations to develop their intellectual capacity to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

The commissioner noted that the State Governor has shown strong commitment to the Improvement of road infrastructure and repairs/rehabilitation of roads across the State, just as he thanked him (the Governor) for this noble gesture, and called on major stakeholders to reciprocate in return by putting in their best in the management of road traffic and Vehicle inspection.

Hon. Agofure, however, charged participants and other stakeholders to ensure that all vehicles plying the roads are actually roadworthy and that drivers should also be properly tested, certified to curb untrained and unqualified drivers to avoid road traffic crashes that can lead to loss of lives and properties.
