Since winning the ‘Double Wahala’ edition of Big Brother Naija in 2017, Efe Ejeba has been noticeably absent from the limelight, and his music career hasn’t taken off as expected.
In a recent interview with HipTV, Efe shared his thoughts on why ex-housemates of BBNaija who pursue music struggle to achieve mainstream success.
According to Efe, the audience that watches BBNaija is “totally different” from those who listen to music.
He argued that reality TV viewers are primarily interested in relationships and drama, and are “passive consumers of music.” They enjoy the lifestyle and drama that comes with reality TV but have less interest in the music itself.
Efe stated, “The reality TV audience is almost totally different from the music audience. They enjoy lifestyle and drama, while the active music consumers are totally different. When you go to reality TV, they just want to see you for your drama, fine clothes, and who you are dating. They have less interest in your music.”
Several artistes have appeared on BBNaija since its inception in 2006, including Laycon and White Money, who won the show in 2020 and 2021 respectively. Other musicians who have been on the show include Bryann, Vee, Uriel, Avala, Groovymono, and Soma. However, few have gone on to achieve significant success in the music industry.
Efe’s comments shed light on the challenges that reality TV stars face when trying to transition into music careers. While BBNaija provides a platform for exposure, it may not necessarily translate to a successful music career.
