Flood Alert: Delta Government Is Prepared, Says Environment Commissioner

The State Government has said they have started working out plans on local government that are flood prone zone with earlier awareness campaign and sensitization.

The state commissioner for environment, Hon. Ejiro Jamani Tommy stated this in Asaba on the state Government preparations to avert unware flooding in the state.

The commissioner noted that the Government is aware that Delta is among the state that experience flooding, and that the government led by Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has started working already.

He said, “the state Governor, who loves and cherishes her citizens, has directed the ministry to sensitive and campaign awareness, especially for those who are living in a flood prone zone, that when the water is coming they must leave the area”.

The commissioner added that some steps are taken to open water channels, saying even last year’s flood alert, the state government was also prepared and all necessary arrangements were put in place when the ministry got the information, and this year will not be different”.

On committee, the commissioner said there has been an already existing committee, that is headed by the secretary to the state governor, Dr. Kingsley Emu while himself is member.

The local governments that are likely to experience the flooding are; Bomadi, Patani, Oshimili South, Ughelli south, Ndokwa East,part of Warri North, part of Ughelli North.
