In a landmark judgment, an Ekiti State High Court has sentenced Pastor Enoch, a cleric at a church in Omuo Ekiti, to life imprisonment for the heinous crime of raping a minor.
The victim, a young girl and daughter of a church member, was a regular visitor to the pastor’s residence, where she assisted with household chores and helped with the children’s homework.
However, during one fateful visit, the pastor exploited her trust, sedating her with a bottle of Fanta and perpetrating the horrific act.
The prosecution, led by Director of Public Prosecutions Julius Ajibade, presented a robust case, calling four witnesses and submitting two exhibits as evidence.
In his defense, the pastor’s counsel, Adeyinka Opaleke, presented a lone witness, but it was not enough to sway the judge’s decision.
Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi delivered a stern verdict, stating that “the prosecution proved the offence of rape against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.”
The pastor was subsequently convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, a testament to the court’s commitment to upholding justice and protecting the vulnerable.
