The Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO), Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, says the knowledge of mathematics physics in tertiary institutions is important in order to create national development and sustainability.
Prof Ezemonye disclosed this during the 30th Annual Colloquium and Congress hosted by the Nigerian Association of Mathematical Physics(NAMP) in collaboration with Igbinedion University Okada(IUO) on Wednesday.
The theme:”Emerging Trend in Mathematical Physics and its Implication for Sustainable Industrial Development in Nigeria” aims at improving strategic development,quality education and growth in the country.
“We are living in a century of Science and Technology and their impact has transformed our lives. Mathematical physics has contributed in tackling complexity and uncertainty in human endeavors.
“Let us continue to work harder towards the improvement of the teaching and learning of mathematics and the sciences at all levels.
“The central role of mathematical physics in the society is seen in its vital role in physical sciences,technology,business,finance and ICT”,he said.
Prof. Ezemonye enjoined the participants to utilize all the technical,intellectual and digital resources provided,in order to better promote the course in the field of mathematical physics.
The President, Nigerian Association of Mathematical Physics (NAMP) while speaking, said sustainable development can be achieved in Nigeria,if there is eradication of corruption through Mathematical physics.
He said that the federal government should formulate religiously implemented research and development policy,provide vital infrastructures such as electricity, super computers, state of the art research equipment in order to achieve national development through mathematical physics in Nigeria.
The Keynote Speaker,Prof Olufemi Adesina,a professor of Mathematics in Obafemi Awolowo University,said mathematical physics in Nigeria can end corruption,improve fundamental understanding and contributes to technological infrastructure and provides trained personnel.
He advised the federal government to give special priority to research in Mathematical Physics and fund the Nigerian Mathematical Center.
