The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has instructed all Computer-Based Test (CBT) center operators to detain any parent discovered near their facilities during the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The directive was announced during the final briefing for CBT center operators on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, due to concerns about some parents’ intrusive behavior.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, emphasized that any parent violating this directive would face arrest, and their child would be disqualified from the examination. He pointed out that, according to national education policy, candidates must be at least 17 years old to sit for the exam.
Oloyede stated, “These parents appear to have bypassed the educational system by not allowing their children to progress through the required classes, leading them to accompany their children to the exam venue with intentions of compromising examination officials. Such parents, in my opinion, deserve sanctions for ‘smuggling’ underage candidates into the examination.”
Additionally, JAMB cautioned candidates to safeguard their personal information, including email addresses, registration details, and phone numbers. This warning was issued in response to the potential risks posed by fraudulent websites targeting unsuspecting candidates.
The Board further advised that candidates discovered with their personal details on such illicit websites would be treated as accomplices and face prosecution.
