On July, 31, 2019 a new management team of the Delta state Oil Producing Area Development Commission, ( DESOPADEC), was inaugurated by the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. The new Managing Director of the commission is Hon. Bashorun Askia Ogieh. He succeeds Williams Makinde, whose tenure expires several weeks ago.
Bashorun Askia Ogieh is from oil-rich Uzere Community, in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state.
Ogieh comes to the job as MD of DESOPADEC with a rich profile of professional and service credentials. His wealth of experience traverse public and private service. It is to the effect that he is considered as an accomplished Politician, Accountant, Banker and Administrator.
He is the Pioneer Executive Director, Finance and Administration of DESOPADE, an interventionist agency with an annual budget of $150million set up to drive development in Oil and gas producing communities of Delta State.
He was formerly a Director at Eleme Petrochemical Company Ltd, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Between 2008 and 2011, he was the Chairman Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State Nigeria, the State Chairman of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) and the National Vice President of ALGON.
He consulted extensively in retail banking with the National Board of Community banks and served on the Board of the Governing Council, Federal College of Education Obudu, Cross River State. He was also Internal Auditor and Branch Manager with First Bank PLC.
Similarly, He was Auditor and Marketing Manager at Madara Dairy Company Ltd Jos.
Bashorun Ogieh is a Fellow, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (FCNA), Fellow, Association of Chartered Systems Accountants USA, Fellow, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, a Certified and Licensed Forensic Accountant and Fraud Examiner with the Society For Forensic and Fraud Prevention.
He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland. He holds a Masterclass Certificate in Business Management & Leadership from the London Graduate School.
Bashorun Askia Ogieh holds a Doctor of Corporate Governance & Leadership (Honoris Causa), Commonwealth University (City of Panama).
He is a Justice of Peace (JP) in Delta State, Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) Rotary International, a Knight of Saint John International and a Traditional Chief.
He heads the Board of several Manufacturing Companies involved in Industrial Starch and Foods.
