In a recent development, the Lagos State Police Command has issued an apology for a mix-up in the case of the alleged arrest of popular Nigerian disc jockey, Obianuju Catherine Udeh, better known as DJ Switch.
Earlier reports had suggested that DJ Switch was apprehended by the police in Lagos. However, she vehemently denied these claims.
The confusion arose when several news outlets reported DJ Switch’s arrest in the Elemoro area of Ajah, Lagos state.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, took responsibility for the misinformation. In a statement released via his official channels, he clarified that the individual arrested was Iwuagwu Ebere Pat, also known as DJ Commissioner Wysei, and not DJ Switch.
Hundeyin expressed his regret to the media organizations that received the inaccurate information directly from him. Notably, this included outlets such as Linda Ikeji, BBC, and TVC.
He stated, “There is a mix-up from our end. The arrested person is DJ Commissioner Wysei, not DJ Switch. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
The incident highlights the importance of accuracy and diligence in reporting, especially in sensitive cases involving public figures. DJ Switch, who gained prominence during the #EndSARS protests, has now been exonerated from the mistaken arrest.
As investigations continue, the Lagos State Police Command aims to rectify the situation and ensure that accurate information reaches the public. The apology serves as a reminder of the responsibility media outlets bear in disseminating reliable news to their public.
