NMCN inducts 39 nursing graduates of Igbinedion University

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria(NMCN) has inducted 39 nursing graduates from the School of Clinical Medicine,Oba Okunade Sijuade College of Health Sciences,Igbinedion University Okada(IUO) for the 2018/2019 session.

The oath-taking and induction ceremony was held at the Central Bank Library Conference Hall in IUO on Monday.

The Vice-Chancellor of IUO,Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, who spoke said nurses provide and monitor patient cares,educate patients and family members about health conditions.

He said that the major duty of a nurse is to provide medication and treatments,give emotional support and direct patient and family care.

“Training in nursing science prepares professionals to create new scientific knowledge to guide nursing practice,access the healthcare environment,improve patient,family and community outcomes”.

“The science of nursing is focused on the development of knowledge to build the scientific basis for clinical practice,prevent diseases and disability and eliminate symptoms caused by illness”.

“Scientists should promote contemporary and rapid progress through postgraduate programme and respond to shortage of nursing researchers by increasing postgraduate intakes”,he said.

Prof Ezemonye urged the inductees to be good ambassadors of IUO and espouse the good qualities of the institution.

He said the Department of Nursing is fully accredited by National Universities Commission till 2020 and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria until 2023.
