Speak 2019 Campaign: Rachael Misan-Ruppee task Warri Youths on peace building

In order to fully realise the gains of the “Speak Campaign” project, Development Initiative for Community Impact (DICI), hosts various communities Youth leaders in Warri and it environs to a peace talk.

The Speak Campaign is a global project coordinated by CIVICUS World Alliance for Citizens participation, in order to give voice to everyone, anywhere.

It was lunched in 2017 with a platform for everyone to speak out on issues that matter most to them. The speak campaign brings together people with differences so they can speak out and workout a collective means to resolving the differences.

This year event that is tagged “Peace Forum: The Role of Youths in Peace Building” that was held in Warri, took place at DICI Resource Centre.

A speak Champion, who is also the Executive Director of Development Initiative for Community Impact, Rachael Ruppee, speaking during this year speak campaign event said if Warri must thrive again all hand must be on deck to make peace prevail over violence, adding that a peaceful community attracts major investors.

“In an area where peace is unstable, crisis here and there, it scares away investors. That is why at DICI we decided that this year Speak Campaign will be a youth forum where youths from Neighbouring communities will come and discuss and made known their roles in nations building”

“We brought under one roof youths from Nine different communities, and they were able to come up with issues bothering them, and they suggested many ways they can build peace”

Rachael Ruppee who further had a chat with The South Daily Correspondent, disclosed that this year event had good resolutions and if proper implementation is carrid out Warri can be peaceful again.

“The youths pleaded with DICI to go round communities and organise training for them on advocacy,they also hammer on the need to love one another and proposed an end to Deve (culled from the word Development charges), that Deve is part of the issues, they further suggested the need for a round table talk between youths and elders. So that Warri can reclaim it former glory of being the economic hub of Delta state”

Some of the participant also bare their mind of the gains of this year event. Speaking with the P.R.O of Okere-Warri community, Omatseyi Okpaghoro, said the training has thought him the need to love one another.

” one thing that I have learnt in this DICI event is the need to show love to one another, to show love to other communities not just your community, the need for transparency in dealing with others”

“With this kind of training Warri will boom again”

Also speaking, the chairman, Ajamimogha community, Ogbe Awane, expressed joy over the privilege of participating in this year event.

“When I saw the drive in this organization I concludes that this is the kind of organization we need in Warri to restores the glory of Warri again”
