Strike: Assault On NLC President Was A Slap On Workers Faces……. Ofobruku

The Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Delta state Chapter, Chief Goodluck Ofobruku has said the assault on the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress was a big slap on workers faces and the labour movement.

Chief Ofobruku spoke to newsmen at Asaba after monitoring the high-level of compliance by workers across the state.

He disclosed that the National President was arrested by the Nigeria police at imo state and was handed over to political thugs to beat him up

He maintained that workers in the country felt it was a slap on their faces for them to ask their president to go to Imo and their President was beaten up.

He added ” We have demanded for the arrest and persecution of those thugs that assaulted the National President of the NLC, and other leaders in Imo state on a peaceful protest.

He revealed that “the Federal government has ignored our demands, saying they feel any Nigerian can go to anywhere and be beaten up and nothing will happen”.

He continued “If the Federal government will not arrest those who assaulted our National President and persecute them, them there is no need to keep working, we have to withdraw our services”.

Also, revealing that the strike was also in most states over non implementation of the N30,000 National minimum wage by states governors that was approved by Federal government five years ago.

Recall that workers in Imo state cried to the NLC that they had not been paid for 22 months salaries, and 44 months for pensioners.
