The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Warri branch, today embarked on an awareness walk through the heart of Warri, Delta State, signaling the start of their Law Week. The event, led by the branch chairman, Barr. Oghenero Okoro, saw a significant turnout from the legal community, all united in the mission to promote legal consciousness.
Onlookers watched as the legal procession passed by, a silent yet powerful reminder of the rule of law and the importance of legal education.
The walk commenced at the Federal High Court, Warri, and meandered through the city’s thoroughfares, culminating back at the court with a press briefing.
Barr. Okoro, addressing the press, unveiled the theme for the Law Week: “Emerging Trends in Legal Practice and Administration of Justice: Challenges and Prospects.” He emphasized the dynamic nature of the legal curriculum and the necessity for practitioners to stay abreast of contemporary methodologies.
Highlighting the week’s agenda, Barr. Okoro announced that a special session would focus on the Petroleum Industry Act, reflecting on its implications and applications. Additionally, the Law Week will address health challenges, equipping members with vital information to manage their well-being effectively.
The Warri NBA’s initiative underscores the evolving landscape of legal practice and the imperative for continuous education among legal professionals. As the Law Week unfolds, the NBA Warri branch is poised to lead discussions that will shape the future of legal practice in the region.
The Law Week is scheduled to take place at the Redeemed Christian Church Of God Hall on Chevron Club Road, opposite DBS Warri. Distinguished guests include the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwor, and the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.
Prof. (Justice) Alaba Omolaye-Ajileye from the National Open University of Nigeria will deliver the keynote address. The roster of speakers and panelists comprises legal luminaries such as Hon. Justice G. B. Briki-Okolosi, John Obaika Aikpokpo-Martins, Esq., and a panel featuring Ama Etuwewe, SAN; Afam Osigwe, SAN; Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN; and other esteemed members of thel egal community.
