Governors in the south south region has agreed to urgently establish a security outfit to end the spate of insecurity in the region.
The governors agreed on the decision during the meeting of the south south governors forum, held in Asaba, Delta state capital.
Rising from the meeting, the chairman of the South South Governors Forum, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, said the region is presently in urgent need of a regional security outfit to attend to the security challenges bedevilling the entire region.
The Delta state governors who posted the resolutions of the meeting on his verified twitter handle (@IAOkowa), said the economics think tank of the region have been mandated to come up with a proposal for the security outfit.

“Today, at the meeting of the South-South Governors in Asaba, we discussed the security of our region and resolved that there is an urgent need to have a regional security outfit for the South-South region.
“We have directed the BRACED Commission, the economic think-tank of our region, to work out the details of the proposed security outfit and brief the governors on the details of the outfit at our next meeting which will be holding in Port Harcourt in May.”
Governor Okowa also said the forum has resolved that all Commissioners of Health from States in the region will meet immediately to work out modalities on how to curtail the laser fever epidemic and the dreaded Coronavirus disease that is currently posing global health challenge.

“We also resolved that the six Commissioners of Health from the South-South region should meet to discuss strategies to collectively combat Lassa Fever, as well as the region’s precautionary procedures against the Coronavirus.”
The meeting had in attendance five Governors including that of Rivers, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Delta while the governor of Cross Rivers was unavoidably absent.
The Director General BRACED Commission Ambassador Joe Keshi was also at the meeting.
