2019 first half year allocation report: Delta State leads states that got the highest allocation – NEITI

Despite the regular tears being shed by Governor Okowa of Delta State that the State is broke and cannot fund some of its strategic projects and create more employment for its citizens, an analysis of FAAC disbursements for the first half year 2019, ending in June showed that the three tiers of government shared a total of N3.842 trillion, and Delta State got the lion share of the allocation.

“Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers and Lagos states received the bulk of federal revenue in the first half of 2019”, the analysis showed.

The figure was 2.61% lower than the N3.946 trillion disbursed in the first half of 2018 but 37.79% higher than the N2.788 trillion disbursed in the first half of 2017.

Furthermore, the state governments received N1.335 trillion as a share of the national revenue while local governments received N792 billion.

The analysis which focused on five Nigerian states with the highest revenue share within the period shows the following:

Delta
H1 2019: N108.7 billion

Akwa Ibom
H1 2019: N 86.12 billion

Rivers
H1 2019: N75.84 billion

Bayelsa
H1 2019: N66.76 billion

Lagos
H1 2019: N58.1 billion

It would be recalled that during the administration of Chief James Ibori and Dr. Uduaghan, the state account was usually made public. Specifically, the then Governor, Chief Ibori published the state accounts in what he referred to as the facts behind the figures.

Even though the facts behind the figures may be at variance with the actual figures, the publications then give Deltans a fair idea of the workings of the government and the allocations received for specific period.
