Buhari Writes Senate, Suspends Okumagba NDDC Led Management Board

President Buhari suspends the Bernard Okumagba led management board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), three months after the Nigerian Senate confirmed their appointment.

In a letter sent to the senate and was read on the floor of the red Chamber by the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan on Tuesday, Buhari said a new board would be constituted at a future date.

Buhari said the suspension was due to a forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) he had ordered while the process of appointment of board members was ongoing.

Having suspended the 15 man board members, Buhari said the. “interim management Committee should continue managing activities of NDDC pending the outcome of the forensic audit.”

The suspended management board was to be chaired by Dr. Peter Odubu from Edo State.

“The Senate is invited to note that while the composition of the board of NDDC was ongoing, I have” directed that the forensic audit of NDDC be carried out.

“The exercise should be overseen by the Interim Management Committee (IMC)

”Based on this and in order to allow unhindered interference of the exercise by the board appointment, as was confirmed by the Senate, it should be put on hold for now.

”With this development, the way has been paved for the IMC to continue, thereby putting to rest the leadership controversy of the agency.
