Fix Faulty Transformers To Avert Vandalization, Ehwero Tells BEDC

By Onomiguren Agbamu

In a bid to put to rest the Incessant vandalization of transformers across the state, the Commissioner for Power and Energy, Mr. Jerry Ehwero, has called on the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to up their task in restoring faulty transformers to enable them avert vandalism.

Ehwero who made the call while speaking with newsmen in Asaba pointed out that not fixing faulty transformers immediately is a major reason why vandals always have their way in carting away with transformer cables.

Mr. Jerry noted that the state governor has provided transformers to various communities in the state and also provided streetlights to some communities, therefore, it is the responsibility of BEDC to ensure these facilities are in use.

The commissioner expressed belief that the Oborewori led Government will find a lasting solution to the power sector, saying with” the 2024 budget that was recently signed into law, the governor specifically prioritized the sector to cater for the power disaster in the state in a bid to actualize his M.O.R.E Agenda”.

Ehiwario, however, worried over the recurrent transformer’s vandalization in the state, insisted that the prioritization of the power sector will put an end to it.

He appealed to communities to protect these transformers from vandals as government will not get security personnel to protect these infrastructures in particular but will concentrate on protecting lives and ensuring sanity in the state.
