The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Asaba, Delta state, Corp Commander Udeme Bassey Eshiet has said the patrol team that was involved in the recent road accident along Asaba- Benin expressway involving a Toyota Sienna are already facing disciplinary action as the operative would not tolerate such act.
Udeme disclosed this recently when he was briefing journalists at NUJ secretariat in Asaba to set the record straight of the true story.
He said there has been many viral video versions of the incident but for the purpose of keeping the record straight, the team were on their legitimate, adding that the Marshall flagged down the Toyota sienna vehicle that was coming from Owerri to Lagos.
He continued that the driver of the Toyota sienna driver was trying to invade arrest, saying that is what drivers do on the road.
Udeme explained that what prompted the FRSC driver to block the way was that one of the FRSC operative was knocked (but he did not fall) by the commercial driver.
The case has settled by both amiably, but Federal Road Safety Corps do not tolerate that kind of incident, we do not send people to block vehicles to the road to cause that kind of damage, he added.
He noted that it is not the character of the Federal Road Safety Corps to behave the way the operatives did.
“All the teams involved are already facing disciplinary action, if they are found culpable, they will be punished accordingly”.
Eshiet revealed that the sector command has reached out to the sienna driver to support him for his treatment, and welfare.
He, however, advised commercial drivers to always obey FRSC Marshals whenever they are flagged down, not necessarily to book them but to educate and enlighten them on what might be faulty in their respective cars.
He promised more reorientation will be carried out for staffs to enable them operate with the public.
