NAFDAC raids shops in Edo,seizes fakes drinks

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized not less than 19 cartons of fake Majesty wine,10 cartons of St Henry,9 bottles of Ciroc and 10 cartons of Black Train drink without registration number in Edo.

The Director, Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, NAFDAC, Kingsley Ejiotor, who disclosed this to newsmen in Benin, said the seizure followed the raid the agency carried out on Wednesday, at Upper Sakponba, and Mission Road, Benin City.

“We are here to seize fake drinks. We have noticed that majority of drinks people consume are not registered by NAGDAC”.

“These drinks without NAGDAC registration number are all fake and causes great harm to human health”.

“NAFDAC is the body that controls, regulates exportation and importation and use of regulated products. This particular drink falls under food which is part of what NAFDAC regulates”.

“Every company that produces drinks go through NAFDAC process,test and policies first before production”,he said.

He advised consumers to be vigilant and ensure that they purchase only products with NAFDAC registration numbers.

The Chairman, Mission Road Market Wine Association, Darlington Ogbiti,
who also spoke during the raid assured the agency that he would continue to check the market to ensure fake drinks are destroyed.

He advised customers to always check for the expiration of drinks before purchasing them.
