Traditional rulers and stakeholders im Delta North Senatorial district of Delta state have asked killer herdsmen to avoid their area in their own interest.
The decision was part of the resolutions reached at an expanded meeting of the Traditional Rulers Forum in the area held at the palace of Obi of Owa, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, in Ika North-East Council of the state.
Reading the communiqué, Efeizomor, who chaired the forum, said they also asked each community to reactivate its security network to contain activities of rampaging herdsmen.
The meeting had in attendance the Dein of Agbor, Benjamin Keagborekuzi (Keagborekuzi I) and other traditional rulers, council chairmen, community leaders, youth leaders and vigilante groups from the district.
Decrying the unwholesome activities of armed herdsmen who have turned various communities into a theatre of war, the monarchs condemned the unprovoked attacks on rural dwellers and wanton destruction of farmlands and economic life wire of the people by herders.
They contended that the conventional security architecture had failed to protect the people in various communities and called on all to rise to the occasion by ensuring that everybody was protected from unwarranted attacks.
The monarchs expressed the need to commence documentation of all commercial motorcycle and tricycle riders in urban and rural centres in the district because of their alleged connivance in security breaches.
Commending Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for championing peace and development in the state, the monarchs pledged their total support to his administration.
