As the world marked the 2019 World AIDS Day, the Federal Government has been urged to offer free treatment to HIV patients in the country.
Dr. Adesuwa Urhoghide-Edigin,President of Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) Edo state chapter made the call during an AIDS Awareness Programme/Rally in Benin on Sunday.
Dr. Adesuwa stressed that every Nigerian citizen has the right to free treatment from the Federal government.
She called on resident of Edo to go for check ups regularly,adding that increased efforts to reach 9.4 million people living with the virus around the world is the major target.
She said that about 19.4million people are unaware of their HIV status.
Dr. Adesuwa who joined others well meaning Nigerians to mark world aid day in Benin, sensitizes the market women’s at Oba market, Ring road and environs with the new executive.
Earlier,Dr Adesuwa was inaugurated as the 21st President of the Medical Women’s Association (Edo State Chapter).
She said the aim of the association was to improve the health status of women and children in Edo state.
“The focus for the next 2 years is going around the 18 local government areas of the state”.
“Giving free cervical, breast and prostrate screenings. Even men would not be left out in this Biennium”.
“Support and Join us as we face this heculian task of eradicating cancer and other diseases from around us”.
“Our objective is to provide a means of communication and cooperation among medical women in the country.We are ready to promote the interest of women around the world regardless of race”.
“MWAN would encourage and promote the entry of women into medical school and we would assist them in optimum utilization of their medical training’,she said.
Some of the dignitaries who were present at the event includes:Senator representing Edo south, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, Chief Judge of Edo state, Justice Esther Edigin, The Iyase of Benin, The Esogban of Benin represented by his son, The Honourable Minister of health Dr Osagie Ehanire represented by Dr Olotu the CMD of Uselu Psychiatric hospital, Dr Sylvanus Okoegbenin CMD of Irrua specialist hospital ,Member representing Oredo constituency Hon.Ogbeide Ihama, Dr Osahon Enabulele the president Commonwealth Medical association and a host of other dignitaries.
